With A 2020 Victory, Honda Civic Has Now Been Canada's Best-Selling Car For 23 Years – Here Are 23 Photos To Celebrate
February 22 2021, Centennial Honda
A streak that began in 1998 has now stretched through to 2020. The Honda Civic is still Canada's best-selling car.
Despite the harsh impacts of COVID-19 shutdowns and a particularly challenging spring in 2020, the year ended with 42,996 Civic sales in Canada. It's a staggering sum: 13% of all cars sold in Canada, 26% of all compact cars sold in Canada, and 30% more sales than its next-closest competitor managed.
The Civic is a dominant force, and we suspect that it's about to become more dominant. See, the Civic that ended 2020 as Canada's best-selling car is the 10th-generation Civic, a successor to nine different Civics that came before since 1973. Honda, however, has already given us a pretty good idea of what the next Civic is going to look like. The 11th-generation Civic was unveiled in prototype form late last year; the production version goes on sale later this spring.
With 23 years under its belt, 2021 is destined to mark 24 years for the all-conquering Civic. A reputation for class leadership in virtually every metric – quality, resale value, durability, reliability, fun-to-drive, efficiency, affordability, comfort, space – has made the Honda Civic an enormously popular vehicle for buyers in every demographic. The Civic's legendary history is a major component, as well. This car is a part of Canada's automotive fabric; it's a central part of so many Canadian road trip stories.
Congratulations on 23 years, Civic. Here's to 24.
