Want To See The Redesigned 2022 Honda Passport? There's A New TrailSport Model To See, Too

The first vehicle in Honda's lineup to benefit from the addition of a new TrailSport model will be the 2022 Honda Passport.

The Passport, according to Honda Canadas' assistant vice president Steve Hui, "now gets the tough and rugged looks to match its off-road competence." In the future, we can expect to see TrailSport add even more off-road capability to Honda's light truck lineup.

But the TrailSport is only one component of the 2022 Passport updates. On all models, there's new bodywork from the A-pillar forward (that's the pillar where the windshield meets the side windows), with a bulging hood and a more upright Ridgeline-like grille. If you want your Passport taken to another level, an HPD Edition will be available, as well. HPD equals Honda Performance Development – the Passport HPD adds a unique grille, black fender flares, more aggressive wheels, and unique HPD graphics.

Regardless of which Passport you choose – Sport, TrailSport, or Touring – there's a 280-horsepower V6 linked to a multi-mode torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system. There are up to 1,430 litres of cargo space behind the rear seats; up to 2,854 litres of maximum cargo volume. The Passport's rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds. There are even more than 8 inches of ground clearance.

Equipment levels are high, as well, with standard Honda Sensing active safety tech (forward collision warning, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise, etc.) and new gadgetry like the Rear Seat Reminder. The feature count is endless.

The entry-level 2022 Honda Passport Sport is by no means entry-level:

  • • auto high beams
  • • sunroof
  • • power tailgate
  • • proximity access/pushbutton start
  • • blind spot monitoring
  • • heated front seats
  • • 8-inch centre screen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto
  • • remote start

The TrailSport sits in the middle of the Passport's Canadian lineup. The Passport Sport's features are included along with:

  • • leather seating
  • • heated rear seats
  • • power passenger seat
  • • wireless charging
  • • front/rear parking sensors

At the top of the lineup sits the 2022 Honda Passport Touring, which adds to the TrailSport's features with, among other items:

  • • 20-inch alloys
  • • hands-free power tailgate
  • • heated and cooled front seats
  • • navigation

Look for TrailSport work to appear on other Hondas in the very near future. The original Passport ran for a few model years in the mid-1990s. The latest Passport was introduced for the 2019, squeezed between the CR-V and Pilot. Like the CR-V, the Passport is a 5-seat SUV. Like the Pilot, it's powered by a mighty 3.5-liter V6 engine.
