The Honda Civic Hybrid Is Coming Back To Canada In 2024
October 24 2023, Centennial Honda
Utilizing the two-motor hybrid-electric system from the Accord, the 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid will begin production as a sedan in Canada in the spring of 2024. Production of the Civic Hybrid hatchback will begin in Indiana shortly thereafter.
Both of these Civic assembly plants – Alliston, Ontario, and Greensburg, Indiana, – are also production sites for the CR-V Hybrid. Hybrids already account for 35% of CR-V and Accord sales in Canada, and Honda expects that the hybrid version of the Civic will soon be responsible for 40% of North America's Civic sales.
In the Accord, opting for the hybrid cuts city fuel consumption by 38%, a drop from 8.1 L/100km to 5.0 L/100km. Overall, based on Natural Resources Canada's combined city/highway ratings, a driver travelling 20,000 kilometres per year would spend $2,394 annually in the regular Accord (at PEI's current fuel price of $1.64) but only $1,738 in the Accord Hybrid. That's a savings of more than $650 per year.
Moreover, the Accord Hybrid actually makes more horsepower; not less.
As for the Civic, we don't yet have all the details on specifications or trim availability. As we learn more, we will add updates to this space. The last time there was a Civic Hybrid available in Canada was 2015.
