The All-New 2022 Honda Civic Just Won 2022 North American Car Of The Year
January 13 2022, Centennial Honda
Snagging a victory over the $105,000+ Lucid Air, the eighth-generation Volkswagen Golf R and GTI, and all other new car entries for the 2022 model year, the 11th-generation Honda Civic is the North American Car Of The Year.
"The all-new 2022 Honda Civic brings newfound refinement to the iconic compact car," NACTOY jurors said. "If carmakers were limited to building just one car model the Honda Civic should be that model."
We knew the 2022 Civic was going to be great – that's simply what Honda does with every Civic. But then when we saw it, then when we read the specs, and then when we took delivery of our first Civics, we were absolutely certain that new Civic was so much more than great. It shifts the small car paradigm. So we weren't surprised when the Civic, which arrived early in the summer, ended 2021 as Canada's best-selling car for a 24th consecutive year.
The North American Car Of The Year is selected by 50 professional automotive journalists from Canada and the United States. Not linked to any one individual publication, NACTOY initiates a group of eligible vehicles by examining every new car, truck, and SUV on sale and then gradually narrows the group until there are three finalists.
The Honda Ridgeline was North American Truck Of The Year in 2017. The Civic was also the North American Car Of The Year in 2006; the same year the Ridgeline won North American Truck Of The Year the first time.
