Official 2025 Honda Civic Fuel Economy Numbers Are In – And They're Spectacular

With the revamped 11th-generation 2025 Honda Civic beginning to land at Honda dealers across North America this summer, we're ready to reveal key specifications for the new Civic Hybrid. We already knew that the Civic Hybrid was going to be the torqueist non-Type-R Civic ever, and we knew that power would be combined with improved efficiency, as well.

But now we have specifics.

In Canada, the 2025 Honda Civic LX and 2025 Honda Civic Sport will be equipped with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder we know well. Officially, the 2.0-liter cranks out 150 horsepower and 133 lb-ft and it's linked to an automatic transmission with combined fuel economy ratings of between 6.7 L/100km and 6.9 L/100km.

Upgrading to the new hybrid powertrain bumps power by 33% (now at 200 bhp) while providing a 74% increase in torque (now at 232 lb-ft) while decreasing fuel consumption by as much as 29%, according to official Natural Resources Canada ratings. This big power/efficiency upgrade is available in the 2025 Civic Sport Hybrid or 2025 Civic Sport Touring Hybrid.

LX 7.4 5.8 6.7 32 41 36
Sport 7.6 6.0 6.9 31 39 34
Sport Hybrid 4.7 5.1 4.9 50 47 49
Sport Touring Hybrid 4.7 5.1 4.9 50 47 49

Prefer to think in terms of miles per gallon? According to the U.S. EPA, official ratings south of the border range from 36 mpg for the Civic LX to 34 mpg for the Civic Sport and 49 mpg for the Civic Hybrid. Switching to the all-new Civic Hybrid is just a $1,900 jump in Canada. That's a noteworthy number – it's actually a $2,500 gap in the United States.

The sedan will be the first 2025 Civic to arrive; the Civic Hatchback shortly thereafter. More news on the 2025 Civic Si will be forthcoming later this summer.

What do these fuel economy numbers mean? Comparing the 2024 Civic Touring with the 2025 Civic Sport Touring Hybrid, highway fuel economy numbers improved from 6.1 L/100km to 4.9 L/100km. In other words, every 100 kilometres driven on the highway should result in 6.1 litres of fuel consumed in the '24; 4.9 in the '25. (Your results may vary depending on speed, temperature, and topography.)

But for the purposes of realistic math, let's use combined fuel economy figures. After all, not all your driving is done on the highway. The 2024 Civic Touring was rated at 6.9 L/100km in mixed driving; the new 2024 Civic Sport Touring Hybrid is rated at 4.9 L/100km.

Over the course of 20,000 kilometres, a typical year for many car owners, the 2024 Civic Touring would consume 1,380 litres of fuel. At $1.70/litre, that's $2,346, or $195.50/month.

In the same scenario, the 2025 Civic Touring would consume 980 litres of fuel. At $1.70/litre, that's $1,666, or just $138.83/month. That's $56.67 in estimated savings per month, a savings figure that would only grow if fuel prices rise.
