Official: 2023 Honda Accord Hybrid Fuel Economy Is Penny-Pinching Goodness
January 23 2023, Centennial Honda
The all-new, 11th-generation, 2023 Honda Accord will be rolled out to Canadian dealers in February with three trim levels, two powerplants, a decidedly upmarket cabin, and eye-catching fuel efficiency numbers.
EX
Honda kicks off the new lineup with the 2023 Accord EX. It's powered by the familiar 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder pumping out 192 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque.
The Accord EX doesn't short-change buyers when it comes to technology and features. Standard content includes auto high beams, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, LED lighting all around, a 7-inch touchscreen with 8-speaker audio infotainment screen, dual-zone automatic climate control, proximity access/pushbutton start, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, an 8-way power driver's seat, and heated front seats.
SPORT HYBRID
Both of the Accord's two top trim levels include the Accord's most powerful hybrid power system ever. With a 2.0-liter four-cylinder paired to a lithium-ion battery, the 2023 Honda Accord Sport Hybrid produces 204 total system horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque.
The Sport Hybrid swaps out the EX's 225/50R17 tires for 235/40R19s, adds paddle shifters, Normal/Sport/Individual drive modes, and bumps up stabilizer bar dimensions, too. The Sport Hybrid is the only 2023 Accord with a rear spoiler. Other changes include the addition of aluminum-trimmed sport pedals, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 12.3-inch centre screen, and wireless Android Auto.
TOURING HYBRID
The peak of the 2023 Accord lineup is Honda Canada's Touring Hybrid. Obviously running the same power system as the Sport Hybrid, the Accord Touring Hybrid also focuses on a luxury experience. Key upgrades on the Touring Hybrid include head-up display, acoustic windshield, auto-dimming rearview mirror, rain-sensing wipers, front and rear parking sensors, wireless charging, memory settings for the driver's power functions, a power front passenger seat, heated rear seats, leather seating, cooled front seats, Bose audio with 12 speakers, Google Automotive Services, navigation, HD radio, and satellite radio compatibility.
So, what about fuel economy? Let's put it in perspective.
20 years ago, the most fuel-efficient Honda Accord was rated at 10.3 L/100km in the city and 7.6 on the highway for a combined rating of 9.1 L/100km. 10 years ago, the most efficient Accord had a combined rating of 8.0 L/100km.
Honda's 2023 Accord is now rated at 7.3 L/100km in mixed driving. But the new Accord Hybrid drops that to 5.3 L/100km, including an absolutely killer 5.0L/100km rating in city driving.
Honda's all-in pricing for the 2023 Accord starts at $38,780. The Sport Hybrid is priced from $42,780; the Accord Touring Hybrid starts at $46,280. Honda believes that in the near-term, 50% of Accord buyers will choose hybrid.
