Canadian Black Book Says 2021's Best Car Brand For Retained Value Is Honda
November 10 2021, Centennial Honda
As pre-owned vehicle values soar across the entire market, one brand stands above all the others. According to Canadian Black Book, the organization's end-of-year Best Retained Value award for 2021 goes to Honda.
And just for good measure, the winner of Canadian Black Book's main car category is Honda's Civic, recently re-launched for the 2022 model year as an all-new 11th-generation model.
The Canadian auto market is well aware that a major component of Honda's traditional appeal has been the brand's outstanding resale value. It's a component that stems directly from top-notch reliability. Because Hondas are known to be durable, pre-owned shoppers want Hondas. And because so many pre-owned shoppers want Hondas, the simple laws of supply and demand send pre-owned Honda values through the roof.
There's nothing like exceptional retained value to protect your investment.
Imagine a scenario where Buyer A selects a non-Honda at $25,000. Then, four years later, that vehicle has lost 60% of its value. It's now worth $10,000. Besides the cost of insurance, fuel, and maintenance, depreciation all on its own has cost Buyer A an astonishing $15,000.
Now imagine a scenario where Buyer B selects a Honda at the same $25,000 price point. Four years later, that vehicle has potentially lost only 30% of its value; it's now worth $17,500. In other words, two vehicles that both cost $25,000 at the beginning actually had a $7,500 differential in cost over the course of four years.
That's why retained value is such an important factor to consider. Canadian Black Book's November 2021 award for Honda is the brand's second consecutive No.1 finish.
